Meet Adam Colgrave, Tadpac’s new Business Development Manager, and Senior Manager of Social Enterprise for Uniting.

From paper merchant to social enterprise

In 1997, at just 19, Adam stepped into the bustling world of Tomasetti Paper House, later known as Paperlinx, marking the beginning of a long career in the paper and printing industry. Adam’s journey is one of resilience, adaptability, and a keen eye for seizing opportunities, reflecting a career that has seen him traverse different roles, cities, and even countries.

Early days at Paperlinx

Starting as a customer service representative in Hobart, Adam quickly proved his mettle. After three years, he sought a change of scenery and moved to Melbourne, where he became part of an exceptional customer service team. This role was more than just a job; it was an entry into a dynamic industry that would shape his professional life.

An international venture

Opportunity soon knocked, offering Adam a chance to assist with the merger of two paper merchants, including their customer service teams, in Auckland, New Zealand. This three- month secondment opened doors to a full-time position as Customer Service Manager in Auckland. The role quickly expanded to include administration duties, stock control, and the general day-to-day operations of the branch.

Return to Tasmania

After 18 months in New Zealand, a call from his former manager in Hobart presented Adam with the chance to return to Tasmania, now under the Spicers Paper banner. However, just as he was preparing for this transition, his manager resigned, and the Account Manager position he was supposed to fill became obsolete. Instead, Adam returned as the State Manager, a role he embraced for nearly a decade, growing the business to a turnover of approximately $12 million a year.

Entrepreneurial endeavours

The entrepreneurial bug bit Adam, leading him and his partner to own and manage Action Indoor Sports and Inflatable World for six years. This venture was a significant departure from his previous roles but demonstrated his versatility and ability to thrive in diverse environments. Unfortunately, COVID-19 forced them to close their doors, marking the end of this chapter.

Return to the printing industry

Undeterred, Adam returned to the industry he knew intimately, joining a large printing and signage business and managing national clients. His extensive experience in the sector paved the way for a new opportunity in February 2024, when he joined Tadpac Print as the Business Development and Relationship Manager. Adam’s familiarity with Tadpac, a long- time customer of his, made this transition seamless and fulfilling.

A new chapter with Uniting Vic.Tas

In June 2024, Adam’s career took another significant turn as he took on the role of Senior Manager, Social Enterprise for Uniting Vic.Tas. This position oversees both Tadpac and Fire & Clay in Lilydale. Both businesses are social enterprises and Australian Disability Enterprises. His dual roles reflect his ability to balance multiple responsibilities and his commitment to driving growth and success in every endeavour he undertakes.

Life outside work

Away from the professional sphere, Adam is an avid golfer, a passionate Carlton supporter, and enjoys the thrill of mountain biking. Family time is precious, and he cherishes moments spent caravanning with his wife of 16 years and their two young daughters, aged 10 and 7.

Adam’s story is a testament to the power of adaptability, the importance of seizing opportunities, and the enduring value of hard work. From his early days at Paperlinx to his current roles at Uniting Vic.Tas, Adam’s journey is one of growth, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
